Looking from outside in....
Can the scales ( in red ) be printed such that the marks are going 'south', where the black marks go 'north'? Just looking at the two layers of plastic suggests to me that lining up the horizontal lines and having the increments pointing two different ways might make it a bit more readable.
Of course, I could be just way off the mark here. Al
