And if you really, really want a DIY sidereal clock you could go to this link: http://www.longavista.com.br/sideral.htm.
I’m a mechanical engineer, so I got lost after reading the first paragraph. I’ll stick to my analog bezels.
Alan-
Yes, a rattrapante would be lovely. With the Citizen, I usually use the normal technique of starting the stopwatch when I take the sight and stopping it when the second hand of the watch gets to 12, and then use the countdown bezel to do the math to back-calculate the time of the sight. My alternate method is to start the stopwatch on the hour, and then use the lap timer as a kind of digital rattrapante. Problem with this method is that it only freezes the stopwatch for 10 seconds before resuming, and sometimes 10 seconds isn’t enough time to jot the time down.

For Gary
Here's two online listings for a sidereal watch.
A 'modern production' item

As long term NavListers may recall, my vote for the ideal watch is one which has the rattrapante feature. If you care to look it up you will find it has a broad class of features associated with celestial navigation

What's ""cool"" to one person might be dull as dirt to another.
Otherwise, I've found the following. Casio's G-Shock digital watch, includes a stop watch function, Greenwich time and some other functions I have not delved into, serves quite well, and maintains accurate time. Checked against NIST/Naval Observatory Time, the Casio seems dead on.
I don't know what the price is these days, but when I purchased mind at Amazon, no business connection with either Casio or Amazon, it went for around $50, this was several years ago.
