An alternate explanation of the 2-body fix giving lat & lon directly starts on page 77 of my book, "Celestial Navigation in the GPS Age". It might be easier to comprehend because it uses the familiar equations and notation of the standard St. Hilaire method, and it uses just one more equation than working two St. Hilaire's for a fix.
