    Paul:

Most any schems that reduces/eliminates "shake" will improve accuracy. Depending on the weight of one's sextant, muscle fatigue can also become a factor, ergo taking a break can help. I would guess that sitting oln the ground during sextant shooting would be a whole lot steadier than standing. It might be possible to shoot from a sitting [position on a boat too.

Re rifle shooting, which I used to do, using the "military sling", if used properly, is a great aid in the direction of accurate shooting. Finding one's "natural point of aim" is important too. Every now and I would happen upon mine. The results achieved, size of fired groups and scores were quite amazing.

    Alan
