I use HP-48 / HP-49 / HP-50 range of calculators for my sight reduction needs. They run for almost a year on 3 AAA batteries and are a programmer's delight. However, they do have a steep learning curve as the language is a unique one: RPL or Reverse Polish Lisp, a combination of HP's earlier RPN (Reverse Polish Notation) and Lisp. It is a powerful machine but you will need to spend some time learning it. These machines can connect to a Mac or PC so you can store your software so that in case of memory loss you can restore the software. They can also transfer programs via IR to other HP calculators. Recommended. The HP-50G can be found on Amazon for about $115.
