I notice now that as a result of my sunset observations my reasoning was too much focused on the horizon where the sun, depending on the latitude, moves at constant slope. The only changes one can notice there are the changes in azimuth resulting from the changes in declination. I understand now that the much larger effect, which the graph reveals, results from how the movement of the sun is projected at the observer, it's thus a pure geometrical feature. Marcel
