    "The Hon. John Byng was the fourth son of Sir George Byng, Lord Torrington,
    victor in the famous action off Cape Passaro in 1718."
    That seems to be the answer to your question. I admit that I have not
    checked "original documents" like the birth register nor had DNA tests made
    on their mortal remains. I am one of the people that put trust in secondary
    sources as long as they have a reputation and record in their field and
    document their sources (unlike Dava Sobel).
