Lu, EMP is one way whether your submerged on on the surface. Your right saltwater does attenuate EMP somewhat but if you are close enough and the detonation large enough... what's the old adage "close enough is good enough when it comes to horsehoes [the game], hand grenades and nucs. Second would be some sort or flooding casualty which could have a myriad of causes and finally fire which is the most feared at sea and can also be caused by many things. Loss of all electronics from whatever casualty you can think up still does not relieve the CO from safely GETTING TO and entering port if the submarine or ship is still operable and not sunk. > BTW, Scott, thanks for your thoughts. IMHO the prudent CO would probably want more than just the NA to do reductions in an emergency situation and in some cases [ship/sub not DNC authorized] would be required to carry paper copies of a LOT of charts and publications even if they didn't want to. -Scott --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Navigation List archive: www.fer3.com/arc To post, email NavList@fer3.com To unsubscribe, email NavList-unsubscribe@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
