I have a fully operational MHR-1 "bygrave" complete with the wooden case, implying association with perhaps the Kriegsmarine submarine service.
Gary LaPook has had an opportunity to personally use my instrument. I do recall a satisfied smile whilst he was calculating! His Flat Bygrave offers the most economical realization for anyone wishing to try one. I recommend it.

You can make your own. I developed a very easy to make version and all the information you need is on my website at:

Also look at:

The whole website may be interesting to you.

Discouraged is likely the last thing I will get, though distracted is something else. Behing retired, I have, one would think, more time to utilize, than things with which to utilize it. Still, time flies, leaving me wondering as to how, when I lived "on the road", sojourning for a year at a time in hotels and motels, I managed to get many things done.
Otherwise, did you make your own Bygrave, or did you "trip" over one of them? I expect that to desacribe them as "rare birds" would be something of an understatement. In any event, it does appears that there are all manner of "nooks and crsanies" in this CN business, where one cvan loose onesself.
