Re: A replica of the Hermione is coming to the U.S....

The replica speed has reached 14 knots during its recent trials (as many as the original Hermione, which was copper cladded). The staff said 16 knots could be possible with the full 2200 m² rig, during the crossing to America !

On 1780, the original Hermione covered 4010 NM with a mean speed of 4.4 knots. But Leftenant Latouche had to face a big storm from the West, and was obliged to heave during 4 days.

Sea the attached map to remind what was the route of the original Hermione (as published in Navigation IFN).

The replica is expected to take the southern route: i.e. to hold up in the Canaries (May 1-6), then to follow the Trade Winds. Yorktown should be joined on June 5.

A number of Navlist members can have the privilege to visit it... It is very impressive indeed.
