    I agree with others: it is hard to beat a Timex Indiglo for the money:
    good night light, big digits, etc.
    
    Another more expensive watch which I think fits in nicely with the
    self-reliant philosophy of celestial navigation are the Citizen solar
    watches.  I have two of them and they should last for decades - the
    manuals hint that the batteries can be recharged by sunlight for many
    more times than most rechargables.  These cost in the $300 range
    however, so they are not appropriate for your budget unless you can
    find a good used one.
