Thanks to all who replied. C-batteries indeed fit nicely and work: I can illuminate the scales, but unfortunately not the bubble. And I don't know where the problem could be. I checked both bulbs: they are OK, and each of them illuminated the scales when placed in that place. And I made sure that there is no filter over the bubble. So the problem is either with internal wiring or (hopefully) with the light switch. Will try to disassemble the light switch in the top of the left handle. The screw-cap on it is really tough, probably one has to use some oil. Any suggestions?
