I have seen it done both ways. Typically when you are already on a plotting sheet (for mid ocean navigating), I plot right on the plotting sheet as everything is already set up. If I am on a chart, as was the case in this exercise, I would have done the celnav plotting on a separate sheet and then transferred the Lat/Long fix to the chart.
In my case at sea, my weak point for accuracy is my plotting. I let the computer figure out the lat and long and then just plot the fix as if it were a GPS fix, but with a circle instead of a triangle.
