Dear Jeremy, Peter and Antoine,
To do a little more, I ran ASTROLAB v3 with Jeremy C data, and the results are as follows :
L = 8° 49.19'N G = 109° 45.14'E
DOP = 1.56 sigma = 0.66 NM
Without transport (vessel speed = 0), the results should be as follows :
L = 8° 50.1'N G = 109° 45.2'E
DOP = 1.56 sigma = 1.67 NM
(DOP has the same definition as PDOP with GPS).
Interesting case, thank you Jeremy.
Regards,
Yves Robin-Jouan (alias Ulyves)

Dear Yves,
Nice to read your post on NavList.
Our mutual results are extremely close (for the case of vessel movement taken in account) :
You indicated :
QUOTE L = 8° 49.19'N G = 109° 45.14'E DOP = 1.56 sigma = 0.66 NM UNQUOTE
to be compared with results I previously published in NavList # 22731 as being :
N08°49'1 E109°45'1 with SDEV = 0.6NM
As we earlier privately discussed between us (in late October/early November 2009) we have been using algorithms almost similar. Therefore I would think that our small difference in results (i.e. our mutual fixes less than 0.1 NM apart) would come from slightly different Celestial Bodies positions or from slightly different Horizon Dip algorithms.
Did you also works the last example given by Jeremy in "[NavList 22613] Round Two: with a bonus ex-meridian" ? And if so, whet are your results ?
After those so many years (Over 3 years ...) best Friendly Regards
Antoine M. "Kermit" Couëtte
PS : Hello to you too Jeremy and Peter.
