Peter Fogg wrote, on 10 Jan- "George Bennett has made a preliminary examination of the probability of error using these azimuth tables. The following is taken from that work." He then provided extracts from an (unpublished?) paper sent by Bennett, for which the author had presumably given permission. I have asked for that whole paper to be made available or a reference given, rather than just extracts. Peter appears unwilling to provide either. I will not comment on partial, and what may be selective, information, but will be quite prepared to comment if the whole work is made available. Nav-L readers may be starting to feel, as I do, that the defects in Bennett's azimuth tables have by now been given quite sufficient exposure. Especially since they have resulted in a warning footnote by the author in the new edition. That's what I was pressing for, as my earlier edition carried no such warning. However, if Peter provides the requested information, I will certainly meet his wishes.
