Ok Robert and Dave I can see your point. Now try to see mine. I'm a card carrying member of the NRA.That's not the point.I may also be a card carrying member of the International Worker's Association or the National Socialist Party. If I was to post those affiliations under my posts could you imagine the uproar that would cause for some people?I also hold other titles and honors that I do not include when I write a navigation-l post.Because they have no bearing on the subject matter. --Original Message----- From: Navigation Mailing List [mailto:NAVIGATION-L@LISTSERV.WEBKAHUNA.COM]On Behalf Of Robert Eno Sent: Thursday, May 06, 2004 09:25 To: NAVIGATION-L@LISTSERV.WEBKAHUNA.COM Subject: Re: political messages on Navigation-L People, People, We dealt with this issue last year. I thought that after the last flare- up and attendent flurry of comments back and forth, that the issue had been resolved. I think that a few people are displaying a level of ultra-sensitivity and thin-skinned-ness that goes way over the top. I also cannot help but feel that there is a certain degree of bigoty involved here. I DO NOT MEAN RACIAL BIGOTY, but bigotry against a particular affiliation. Many posters to this forum list their affiliations as a part of their signature. So what? I think the problem here is that the individual in question is a member of, among other organizations, the National Rifle Association. To some, particularly here in Canada and over in Europe, this is akin to being a memeber of a terrorist organization. Would these expressions of outrage have been precipitated by a fellow member who, for example had: "The Society for the Outlawing of Whale Hunting" or "International Save the Oceans Committee" appended to his signature? I think not. I think what is really going on here is that some folks have such a visceral dislike of firearms and firearms-related associations -- particularly the NRA -- that any reference to same sets them off into apoplectic fits of outrage. The gentleman in question has never discussed anything on this forum but navigation. He has never attempted to foist his beliefs and opinions on this forum. He has never discussed anything but navigation. That he has his affilitations appended to his signature should be of no consequence. If you are offended, stop reading the posting once you reach his name. Contrary to what some might believe, we do not have a God-given right to be protected from an opinion which we find offensive. I too have some very strong feelings about this topic but this is not the forum in which to expand on those feelings. And no, I am not an NRA member. I agree with Captain Weilacher. Leave the guy alone please. You don't like a man's business card, ignore it.>

Indeed. Why don't you demonstrate by example, Wolfgang...
Another list member recently took the opportunity to repeat his bad habit of expressing his political opinions on the list. This is nothing but grafitti. Please, BOTH of you, and also those with politically-charged signatures, take it somewhere else.
