    Re: odd astro compass attachment

I was the fellow who originally posed the question and I think I might have
the answer: someone has converted that astro-compass into a poor man's dumpy
level and theodolite. I recently acquired an old article from a carpenter's
magazine that describes how to convert an astro compass into a dumpy level.

Same question was asked in NavList2877 (with replies in 2886 and 2887),
but no definite answer has yet been given.
Judging from the materials used it is a later addition not originating
from the manufacturer of the compass.
