If its a component of the famed Norden Bomb Sight, then its an internal component, because this object does not align well with images of that bomb sight.
I would suspect that if it really is an internal component, that those in "the know" will not reveal their knowledge. Why? Complete Norden Bomb Sights are very pricey items. If you are missing this component, you clearly won't tell others just for the privilege of paying more.
Of course, I'm about to be proved wrong!
