Randy,
Linked are two plots showing how the Pub. 229 reduction looks vs. the calculator reduction. Notice that when working with a calculator and a GPS position(or equivalent) the plotting sheet scale can be expanded . The three selected bodies differ by about 120* in azimuth for an optimal triangle.
