    Re: more Martelli Tables

When my ancient program for reducing sail race results was replaced by a "modern" program, I immediately noticed that its results were in error. I communicated with the writer, and he immediately recognized it as a rounding error and corrected it. His program was so much more complicated and labor intensive, that I never used it. It's sole advantage was that it was more "modern," and some people think that's important.

I made a check of Robert's new table V, just chosing a random entry 36 degs 6 mins, and found on my HP48G the result 2.0511 instead of the tabulated 2.0510. I used the formula log(21.6/(1-cos(x)))

Then I checked some more entries using excel, from 36d0' to 36d19' and found that 8 out of those 20 results were one unit too small in the 4th decimal. So there seems to be something wrong with the rounding in your program.

I haven't checked any of the other tables, only the 20 entries mentioned above.
