Article probably describes TIGHAR "expedition" to Gardner-Nikumaroro to look for a "landing gear and wheel" which should appear on an old photo . The Earhart-Noonan crew and aircraft have never been on Gardner since the from the Howland region remaining fuel load was insufficient to cover the 400 SM , 2 3/4 hrs distance .
