    Alan,
Thanks!  I may be getting closer but I am still not there.

First, are you talking about June 5, 2011?   My almanac does not give quite the same numbers.  But let me try to roll with that.

Second, when you say "opposite 0.3, find 0.1"  is the 0.3 the left-hand number in the first  "v or d corrn" column and 0.1 on the right?

Sorry for being so stupid!  Thanks for your patience!

    Patrick

The following works for me, using the Daily Pages of the NA. I've selected from the Daily Page covering 3,4, 5 June, where the d correction, bottom of the page is 0.3.

    look at 5 June, 19 hours. Dec of Sun is N 22D 35,7 Min. Dec for 20 hours is N22 D 36 M, a lesser number.

Going to Increments & Corrections, gray edged pages in NA, picking 17 M 12 Sec, I simply picked this time, opposite 0.3, find 0.1, which you would subtract from Dec shown at the Daily Page you were working with.

As for why this, I will take the word of the people who produce the NA regarding this being what one should do. Also, it appeares to work.
