Captain Dennis reckons he was the first person to see the first rays of the sun over Australian territory in the new millenium. It happened on an Antarctic tourist flight on January 1, 2001.
''We were flying due south and the sun was in the south,'' he recalled. The sun was, in effect, still on the other side of the world as his aircraft streaked high over Australian-claimed Antarctica.
