Ouch! I suspect, since rhumb lines are a convenience for ocean navigators, that they are not a consideration in the practice of the Muslim religion.
From my understanding, rhumb lines are a convenience, because otherwise the bearing is a constantly changing value with respect to the instantaneous meridian you happen to be on. That is, as
you drive towards the destination using a great circle route, the angle with respect to each meridian you cross is changed. To avoid driving the helmsman crazy, the great circle route is approximated using rhumb lines, which have a constant angle with respect
to the meridians you cross.
