    I thought I read a few years ago about this question concerning astronauts and religious leaders said it was more important to pray than to worry about the direction.

    John asked-

    "If you pray to Mecca, do you use a rhumb line or a great circle?"

    ================

    from George-

    Deep in the archives there should be an old posting of mine, in which I
    speculated about the existence of an anti-Mecca, on the other side of the
    World, where an obelisk would be set up and the Faithful could gather round,
    but all facing radially away from it.

    Unfortunately, it's a fantasy, because the antipode of Mecca is in the
    Ocean, not on land.

    George.
