Getting into a small boat to cross an ocean is silliness. Many things that humans do for amusement are silly. From a natural selection point of view, any activity that won't produce a meal or a mate is a dangerous waste of time. The best backup for GPS is another GPS in a plastic bag. But where's the fun in that?
