    Mike. Are there not instructions printed on the station pointer?  Pick three points on the chart ideally 120° appart if your taking bearings or not greater than your sextant arc if your using horizontal sextant angles.  If using radio stations, use a DF loop.  Set the three arms a distance apart equal to the angles between the three points (or stations).  Place the station pointer over the chart and wiggle it around until the three arms each pass over the points chosen.  Poke your pencil through the hole in the middle and mark your position on the chart.  I’m pretty sure the instructions for distance off will definitely be printed on the equipment.  It’ll be a simple graphical solution to a trigonometry problem.  Measure the angle between the base of the cliffs or whatever and the centre of the lighthouse lens or whatever using your sextant.  Then follow the instructions on the equipment.  Dave
