    This conforms with my experience.
    I can add that the shades can be not transparent at all,
    or too light, which makes them unusable,
    and their screws may not hold them in place during the observation.
    And the scale may not be a real scale, but a reproduction of a scale:-)
    I've seen a lot of those for the prices up to $400,
    but none of them could be used for anything except hanging on the wall
    as a decoration.
    Usually they try to "reproduce" old and famous brands,
    but perhaps nowadays Astra gives them their production which fails
    to pass quality control ?
    BTW, I've seen an Astra which was sold as a real sextant with one shade
    completely non-transparent, opaque. (Sun in clear weather in summer at
    40 was not visible at all. I believe Astra replaced it when the owner
