Yes, SI units had the measurement of length based on a survey to measure the distance from the North pole to equator - the Metre being one ten millionth of that distance - through the meridian of Paris (naturally). The idea being to have a 'natural' distance to measure. .... they got it wrong of course. Douglas Denny. Chichester.
