    Re: cape horn rounding

    Dear Hal,

Please add me to the mailing list.

Is there any information available about "Europa"?

Another bark, the Endeavour replica, rounded the Horn six months ago on her
way to UK. She is still in Britain, and we took another look at her in
Portsmouth just this morning. So this year, an unusual amount of square-rig
    traffic round the Horn.

Next thing, perhaps, might even be a WESTBOUND passage round the Horn. That
would be a challenge for any square-rigger, though Cook managed it in
    Endeavour.

John Selwyn Gilbert was on board Endeavour for the complete voyage from
Fremantle to Whitby (and was, earlier, a navigator for the BBC's passage
Cairns to Bali in Endeavour). He will be talking to our little outfit
(White Horse Cruising Club) on Monday. Square rig, and lunar distance
navigation, is being taken seriously once again.

    Bon voyage, Hal.

    Yours, George.
