A slight exaggeration. It's a well understood approximation, as Gary and I have pointed out. I would suggest the instructions in the NA are quite correct for a consistent level of approximation. (At 59s, would you take the value for the next whole min since it's "better"?) If you're not happy with the degree of approximation, use seconds/3600 or decimal min/60 times the v or d as Gary suggests.
