Hi Lu - I'm in Cape Town, South Africa.
    Thanks for the reply though.

Don't know where you're located, but if it's anywhere in the
    northeast, I
can wholeheartedly recommend Robert O. White in Boston. It's a fine
nautical instrument shop with a German technician who is an expert
    on
compass repairs. A few years ago my (slightly more modern) Ritchie
    compass
got a crack in its dome and a bubble in its fluid; the repairs were
    not
only expert but quite reasonably priced. The compass came out of
    their
            shop in better-than-new condition.
