For those of you who have some notion of German. The main German TV channels showed in 2001 (ZDF) and in 2004 (ARD) the documentary "Wettlauf zur Venus" (Foot-race to Venus). It reports on the various expeditions which were undertaken in 1769 for measuring the Venus transit. Searching this documentary in the video libraries of these TV channels was not successful. However, Google located it on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bp_Wem1JYmg The film shows the interest in astronomy in the 18th century and the difficulties the different expeditions were facing.
