A recent incident at London Heathrow Airport began when the crew of a Polish airliner entered east longitude instead of west when aligning their 737's inertial reference systems. This initiated a chain of events which resulted in the plane taking off without valid attitude and heading data for its "glass cockpit" displays. To make matters worse, the plane entered cloud less than a minute later. Forced to use the standby attitude indicator and magnetic compass, the crew had trouble following ATC vectors back to the airport; the report shows a path resembling a drunkard's walk. Nevertheless, they got lined up and broke out of the clouds for a visual approach and uneventful landing. http://www.aaib.dft.gov.uk/publications/bulletins/june_2008/boeing_737_500__sp_lka.cfm -- I block messages that contain attachments or HTML. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Navigation List archive: www.fer3.com/arc To post, email NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
