    Why the square?

I am not really looking to actually calculate the forces each time I
leave the slip as much as to try and understand from a theoretical
standpoint what is happening. Then, armed with a few good observations
of the current and wind I would hope I could then have a better "seat
of the pants" feel to the situation in the future.

Thanks George for the considered reply.
