Alex writes: "Does anyone know why Jan Kalivoda no longer seems to be on the list? And how to contact him. When I joined the (old) list in 2003 or so, he was still a member. " Apart from five messages posted on two days in April of 2006, Jan Kalivoda stopped posting to the navigation list in October of 2004, just two weeks after you joined. His last substantive post was on October 1, 2004 although he did post one later message asking how to change his email address signed on to the list. According to a message from Bruce Stark arounf that time (where is Bruce, by the way?), Jan K. had to get off the list because too much email was going to his business email address. You may recall there was a big boom in list volume about that time. October, 2004 still holds the record for the highest list volume, averaging 25 posts per day. People come and go from this activity, both the activity of celestial navigation and the activity of posting online about celestial navigation. You'll see people filled with enthusiasm for a year maybe, and then they're done. They've learned what they're going to learn, said what they needed to say, and so they move on to other activities. They get outside more and enjoy the fresh air. They go boating. Another MIA is Jim Thompson. Many of you will recall that he posted here daily, built a big web site filled with celestial navigation info, and seemed to have boundless enthusiasm for the topic. Then he stopped posting, and the web site disappeared, too. -FER www.HistoricalAtlas.com/lunars --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ To post to this group, send email to NavList@fer3.com To , send email to NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
