In fact, that was exactly my original recollection on this! It sounded quite Gebhart-esque to me when I read it last week. But when I went looking for documentation, the only source that I could find in print was David Burch's article written in the Spring of 2006. As I noted before, "these things happen innocently in a field like celestial navigation".
