Although the hard work has been done, I would add that the date of this photo almost certainly fell during the August school holidays that year.  So I think the presence of children on the platform can be ignored as a clue.

It is probably time to end this thread because it is in danger of drifting off in to off-topic territory. I will try and sneak in a final comment.

I had not thought about school holidays. In my day there were two school holidays a year - IIRC one was called the "August" holidays. Times have changed and my grandaughters always seem to be on holiday.

Something I have not determined is what day of the week was 18th Aug 1950? I asked Mr Google but suprisingly he did not know. I am sure that there is an algorithm I can use. Can anyone  tell me the day? I am ure that it is on-topic for this forum.

is theatening to drift off in to off-topic territory.
