    But you are talking about the real world. On this list we are in the let's-pretend world where GPS satellites don't exist.

    The point I was making was that while one may not think ​that great precision in positional knowledge is needed in the middle of the ocean, where one is a thousand miles from one's final destination, one may find that there is indeed one situation where one suddenly needs to know one's latitude and longitude very precisely so that one may be rescued without a prolonged search for one!
