    Hi Tony,

    Another trick we have learned from cel nav course is that lowering your eye height level (going to lower deck) might help.

    Also it is possible to put a celestial body (provided it is higher than 60 deg) on the opposite side of the horizon which may be clear. Then subtract 180 deg.

    I agree C&P bubble sextant is expensive thing. I plan to borrow one to make some practical measurements and compare to my mirror artificial horizon.
