Does anyone have a definitive answer for what the
"d" and "v" letters in the Nautical Almanac daily pages actually stand for?
I've always assumed that "d" stood for
"declination" (and lower case because it's a small value, common symbology in
mathematics - i.e. calculus), but I suppose it could also stand for "difference"
(same logic with the lower case).
As for "v", since it's an incremental correction
to an hourly GHA value I figured it stood for "velocity" (continuing the
lower-case theme), but I've also heard/read that it stands for
"variation".
Anyone got the "real" answer on
those?
