Re: What Watch Features for Celestial Navigation?

I just received my new Casio Pathfinder PAW2000T-7 today and I have to say I think this is the perfect watch for celestial navigation.

Not only does it sync the time with one of six time servers around the world, but it also has a built in thermometer and barometer (useful for add'l. corrections) and an altimeter (although not quite accurate enough for dip calculation, it'll give you a rough idea.) And as if that weren't enough, it has a built in digital compass (helps determine azimuth for reliable identification.) But wait...there's more! :) This particular model will also calculate Sun rise and set times for any location (to the nearest whole degree) between 65°N and 65°S!!!

One caveat: you HAVE to read the manual to use the watch's sensors effectively! They are precision made and require calibration and careful attention as to how they are used.

I was extremely happy with my last Casio atomic watch, and I'm sure it'll be no different with this one. There's only one watch I'd like to have more than this one: the Ulysse Nardin Astrolabium. Now that is a fine instrument!

    ~Sean
