Thanks for the response and great pics and story on the Morgan! Some of the questions relate to odds and ends we have in the attics/basements of our scatterd family e.g., sea chests, parallel rules, nav books, etc. The chart was stored for years in a large metal chart tube - very old.
Your reply reminded me of the time we were sailing down east from Marion, MA and I was on day watch when I sailed into (by mistake) a large whale sunning itself on the surface; we were on a 50' Ketch the whale just swam away like nothing happened but I ended up pulling into Stonington, ME for bottom repairs...I guess we can chock that up to payback for my ancestors choice of employment.
P.S. The attached JPG is from the Aldrich 1887 photo collection at the New Bedford Whaling Museum; probably used to show greenhands what whaling was all about :).
