A couple of weeks ago I posted an announcement for the weekend class "Celestial Navigation - 19th century Methods" which I will be teaching in three weeks at the planetarium at Mystic Seaport (details if you missed it are here: http://fer3.com/x.aspx/11920). I am mildly amazed that we have 15 people signed up for that class already including at least two NavList members, neither of whom I have met so far as I know but I know their names from the archives. Since there are only three weeks to go to the class, I thought I should mention it one more time here since that's more than half-full. If any others among you on NavList are thinking about it, you may want to call Mystic Seaport Reservations soon. Their number is 860.572.5322. Sorry... it's a class, so it's not free.
You can view all of the Treworgy Planetarium's courses and events including those not involving me ;-) on their web site here:
http://mysticseaport.org/planetarium_cw
That's also where you'll find pricing info and various ways of signing up for classes.
And just as a reminder, and to avoid confusion, there are TWO distinct classes that I am teaching at Mystic Seaport this Spring AND ALSO the big biennial Navigation Weekend gathering in June. The above "19th c. methods" class is March 27-28. And then, three weeks later, April 17-18 is "Easy Introductory Celestial Navigation by Noon Sun".
THE BIG CONFERENCE (not a class): Be sure to mark your calendars and make your travel plans for the "Navigation Weekend: Advanced Topics in Traditional Navigation" which will be held at the Treworgy Planetarium June 4-6. This is the third biennial Navigation Weekend. You can get some idea what this is like by visiting the web pages for the last one at http://www.fer3.com/mystic2008. The schedule of events and talks for this weekend is still open for submissions. I have only begun "penciling in" the talks that people have suggested to me so far!
