    Dear All, and in particular

    Dear Gary

In my last post referenced here-above, I wrote :

    QUOTE

PS : As a regards the "not too far away from LAN rule" as applicable to plain parabola regression, do anyone know any numbers ? Obviously the smaller the zenit culmination, and the smaller the "permitted time" around culmination time ... but according to which numerical criteria ? Does anyone know on NavList ? Peter ? Andres ? I have not seen anything published, as far as I can remember ...

UNQUOTE ... (I should have written zenitH ....)

Gary, you have since very kindly submitted 2 posts on NavList (see them copy-pasted as "POST ALFA" and "POST BRAVO" hereunder). One of them at least - probably - might offer an answer to my query.

HOWEVER, given the complexity of the NavList distribution which has to cover both "personal e-mails" (I am guessing that this is your type of access to NavList, Gary) and "Internet" distribution (the latter being the one I am personally using), the "technical format" you are using Gary for your replies seems incomplete.

Through reading/studying your 2 replies from the Internet, Gary, I just cannot single out WHICH reply is addressed to me. In either of them there is no readable/visible (again from Internet) reference to WHOM you are replying to (using my first name might have helped here ....) nor to WHICH subject you are covering/replying to.

From this specific and most recent example - which is far from being unique on our NavList Forum nowadays - I am aware that the subject of adequately referencing posts is neither a simple nor a straightforward matter.

Given previous comments and advice from some colleagues, and since I am only exchanging through the Internet, I am now beginning ALL my posts with a specific reference to the relevant post, such specific reference being made under the form hereabove. I am also directly - and (too) heavily sometimes - addressing individual persons in writing so that they know that I am replying to THEMSELVES, in addition to making our exchanges public on NavList. Is this way of doing sufficient ?

I am well aware that this subject has been raised more than once with also some kind of "irritated" replies now and then.

Frank, since you are our "Moderator", what do you think about this topic -raised again I know ... - and which solutions can be brought to our NavList Community so that whatever the support used - whether E-mails, Internet or other - there is always an adequate and simple/easy way to "trace" posts up (at least) and down (if feasible) like "tree branches" between them ?

Best Regards to all, and in particular to you Gary and Frank

    Kermit

This was thoroughly discussed in April 2009 so go to that month in the archives and sort by "Subject". Here is a link to one such posting:
