    The maximum altitude of venus at 41°S in April  is about 26°.  The dec is currently about 23°N heading for a maximum 27° N  in May.  Maybe I should wait until December when it will be at its maximum southerly point?  Today the  altitude of venus does not matter - the sky is covered with thick cloud.

    I am sure  that I am looking in the correct direction because  on several occasions  I have seen the planet through binoculars. The problem is that it appears briefly and then disappears never to be seen again.
