    Greg,
            Thanks for the advice on Venus and yes I must remember to split it with the line of the horizon.I use a 4x40 star scope and pre calculate with Nautical Almanac and a 2102-D
    star finder.It is all ways a thrill to see it pop into view in the pre set sextant .

    Good going with your Venus observations. Right now it is only 35 percent illuminated but still visible during the day. Be sure to have the horizon pass through the middle of the visible disc which can be as large as one minute of arc. I assume that you are using a 4 power scope rather than a sight tube and pre-calculating your altitude.
