Good morning all, I used an earlier edition of Hobbs (currently 4th edition on the link below)when I took the course at Penn State from their  Navy ROTC program when I worked there.  The books (2 volumes then) was pretty good, but we were also lucky that the Chief of the command was a Quartermaster ands a real nice guy.  He took my Davis Mark 15 and showed me how to adjust the mirrors.   I was the only non-ROTC student they ever had go through their class.

On another note about phasing things out - I just read on military.com that they are phasing out signalmen.  I guess they are not worried about secure comms from another vessel.

This message is primarily addressed to Joel Jacobs.

Is it possible for civilians to obtain copies, even used, of the textbooks that the academy uses in their navigation courses?  I am trying to work through Bowditch and the example navigation problems, and finding it very difficult.  Maybe a different text would help me out.

    Thanks,

    Andrew
