My dock neighbor (Rich Reynolds) easily talked me into trying for an underway daylight 3-body fix aboard his Catalina 36 sloop yesterday. Attached is the plot of his excellent observations of Moon, Sun, and Venus. His Freiberger split horizon with 4x40mm scope did a fine job of observing a very difficult daytime Venus while beating to weather at 5 knots. I brought my Cassens & Plath with a whole horizon and got skunked on the Venus shot :( Next time I'll be bringing my Tamaya Jupiter with a split horizon.
