DavidC you wrote: In an explanation of how to define a location on a NZ topo map it states that geographical coordinates are to be given in lat, long order. However grid coordinates are to be given as easting, northing.

I’ve touched on the UK National Grid with kids at open days in the UK.  Certainly, the 9-11 year olds are already familiar with it.  They all come out with “Across the hall and up the stairs” as soon as I mention grids.  They all know “My very educated mother” as well.  At that stage I usually say, “I’ll sit down, and you can teach me.”  Well done the UK National Curriculum (or well done Wikipedia). Where does the NZ National Grid start?  DaveP
